Around the healing stone spring - "Sauermühle" hiking day tip
The open, wide Dreiborn plateaus alternating with the lush green forests of the Eifel National Park are balm for the soul for active enthusiasts. On the leisurely "Sauermühle" hiking tour, the colorful natural diversity of the Eifel and a few more highlights await you.
The tour at a glance
The start and finish point of this 8-kilometre hike is the national park information point in Einruhr, where you can find out about the special features of the region right at the start of the tour. You should also take a detour to the inner courtyard of the nearby Heilsteinhaus. You can fill up your water bottle with healthy water at the healing stone fountain. The precious healing water from the healing stone spring is pumped from a depth of 52 meters and brought to the fountain.
With the delicious water in your hiking rucksack, you set off for the Dreiborn plateau, which covers around 33 square kilometers and forms an important part of the Eifel National Park with its spectacular biodiversity. From the plateau, the route then leads into the deep green forests of the national park and down into the Sauerbach valley, where the Sauermühle mill once stood. The mill has long since disappeared, but the healing stone fountain is still fed from here today. Following the babbling Sauerbach stream, you return step by step to Einruhr, the starting point of the circular tour. By the way: the Haus am See hotel-restaurant-café is located right by the lake and is a great place to stop for refreshments at the end of the hike.
Good to know: The tour is classified as "medium" and is signposted with no. 45 . With pleasant inclines, the Sauermühlen loop is a hike for the whole family.
