Archäologischer Landschaftspark
Nettersheim
Formerly a settlement on the important Roman road between Trier and Cologne, today a tranquil place for cultural and scenic enjoyment: the remains of Marcomagus can be found in the Archaeological Landscape Park of the Eifel community of Nettersheim. Parts of the original street layout, residential and commercial buildings, a fortification as well as the matron sanctuary "Görresburg" can be seen. The landscape park is accessible via a 4. 5 km circular path that starts at the nature centre. On certain dates you can even have a ride in a Roman coach. Or do you love crime? Then why not take the participatory thriller"The Sins on the Temple Mount" with you for the journey, which is sold in the Nature Centre. There you should anyway visit an exhibition with original roman excavation finds. At the Grüner Pütz, very close by, a gigantic water pipe once started, bringing fresh spring water to the Roman city of Cologne. The Roman canal hiking trail follows its course today. The first two stages can be easily done from Nettersheim.
