Blankenheim

In the picturesque village centre of Blankenheim, visitors dive into past times. The spring of the river Ahr, the historic town gates, the late gothic parish church and numerous half-timbered buildings adorn this historic place.

Everyone who strolls through one of the studios or stops in one of the cafés and enjoys the wonderful view of the town and the castle can find relaxation and enjoy peace and quiet. The historical carnival museum in the Georgstor impressively explains four hundred years of Blankenheim carnival customs, in particular the Blankenheim ghost train.

Around the barrier-free pond, pedal boats and rowing boats, miniature golf, a children's playground and an open-air swimming pool provide the ideal setting for leisure activities and relaxation. Every year in the summer months the special cultural programme "Blankenheim Summer at the Lake" with musical open-air events takes place here.

LVR-Freilichtmuseum Kommern

History comes alive at the LVR open-air museum in Kommern: Chickens run around between the houses and peck at the ground, cattle graze peacefully in the pasture and fresh bread smells waft from the bakery. Visitors can wander through five different assemblies and their buildings. The journey through time in the Rhineland begins at the end of the 15th century and ends with the 20th century. Exhibitions and various festivals and markets, such as the Anno Dazumal fair, round off the museum experience.
