geführte Wanderung: Himmel & Erd
Müllenbach bei Kaisersesch
The guided "Heaven and Earth" group adventure walk makes history come alive up close. From the "Earth", the former slate mine, you will travel to the "Heavens", the impressive pilgrimage church of Maria Martental, which has already been visited by countless pilgrims. There is also something for the physical well-being - whoever wants to can be spoiled with slate wine and regional specialities in one of the restaurants following the interesting hike.
The guided group hike takes place under the guidance of an expert from the Verein zur Erhaltung der Schieferbergbaugeschichte e.V. (Association for the Preservation of Slate Mining History). It begins at the cultural centre in Müllenbach and continues along a scenic route lined with old slate mines, gallery entrances, remains of buildings and the highest slate heap in Germany, extending as far the steep slate wall in the Kaulenbach valley.
There, the second part of the walk traverses the romantic "Valley of the Wild Endert" with its lively stream. At the "Rausch" waterfall, you cross the Endert and hike up to the pilgrimage church and the Maria Martental monastery, with its monastic tradition of over 800 years. A monastery representative will welcome you and tell you about the impressive history of the order, the monastery and the pilgrimage church. Afterwards, there is enough time to stay in the pilgrims' guesthouse or the monastery shop. After this eventful walk, you can end the day with regional specialities in one of the restaurants in the Kaisersesch slate country.
