The Hinkelsmaar belongs to the Mosenberg volcanic group, which erupted about 80,000 years ago. The Hinkelsmaar represents the most recent eruption. It is surrounded only by a relatively flat wall, which used to be filled with water. The crater has a diameter of about 100 meters and a crater depth of only about 10 meters. After rainfall or winter, water stands in the crater, the mid-marsch.
Parking: Visitors should use the Hinkelsmaar/ Kratersee parking lot or the parking lot at the fishing pond. Simply follow the appropriate signs coming from Manderscheid via the L16 before entering Bettenfeld.
