Historischer Ortskern Kornelimünster
Kornelimünster with its churches worth seeing and old town houses, the former monastery and today's museum offers an excellent ambience for strolling. Important art treasures, the "Historical Fair" in June, the Korneli Octave in September and the Christmas market are reasons to visit the pilgrimage site. The pubs in the romantic alleyways attract walkers and stopovers.
Kornelimünster is the starting point of the Eifelsteig long-distance hiking trail, which runs 313 km in 15 stages through the Eifel to Trier.
Largely spared from the great wars, Kornelimünster is still characterised by 17th and 18th century town houses. The historic centre of the village from the Middle Ages has been almost completely preserved. Half-timbered houses and quarry stone houses that convey prosperity - nowhere else can the history of secular architecture in the Aachen region be experienced in such a condensed form as in Kornelimünster. Many of these houses around Korneliusmarkt and Benediktusplatz are listed monuments and are subject to the protection of artistic monuments under Article 18 of the state constitution. According to the state conservator in Bonn, Kornelimünster has one of the most historically significant sites in the Rhineland, in whose preservation there is a public interest.
