Lüxeberg Bombogen

Lüxeberg Bombogen

Wittlich

The name Lüxe comes from "lützel", the Middle High German word for "small". In the vernacular the Lüxeberg is also called "Lüxemberg" or "Lüxemkopf". In the past, sandstone was extracted from two quarries, which can often be found in the centre of the neighbouring villages Neuerburg and Bombogen. The crushed basalt from the Lüxeberg was mainly used as a packing layer and gravel for road construction. On the east side there is a small cave which served as a shelter for the inhabitants of the surrounding villages who were under fire during the Second World War. Hiking trails no. 5 and no. 7 lead to the Lüxeberg and to the neighbouring, better known Neuerburger Kopf with beautiful views. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)
