Mürmes
Ellscheid
The area around the "Mürmes" marsh near Ellscheid and Mehren has been a nature reserve for decades. Since then, the Mürmes has been an important refuge for many animal and plant species that feel safe and protected in this well-preserved environment. Due to the special conditions in the Mürmes, with a peat layer of about 4 meters thick, certain plants can develop particularly well. Take your time for a walk and discover creeping marsh fern, spotted orchid, or round-leaved sundew along the way. For many bird species, the Mürmes is an important breeding ground, including the grasshopper warbler, the teal, or the corncrake. For nature lovers, the Mürmes is a small paradise that also enriches many hiking trails with its scenery.
