Museum "Villa Sarabodis"

Gerolstein

The small, charming museum “Villa Sarabodis”, located in the shadow of the Church of the Redeemer, displays and explains artifacts from the Roman-Celtic golden age in the Kylltal Valley and revives the splendour and power of the Roman era.

Our region was once a conquest and settlement area of the Romans. They brought their culture to the local Celts and left many living traces in architecture, cuisine and culture. All Roman sights once lay on Roman roads, a dense network of solidly built roads. Some are still recognizable and experienced as Roman roads, others are still used as modern transport routes. Via a virtual network of Roman roads, an ancient cultural region is opened up in a modern way. With the opening of the museum by the Archaeological Association Duppach e. V. , the tourist promotion of the Roman heritage could now be further expanded.

Vulkan Goldberg

The quaternary volcano Goldberg, northeast of the municipality Ormont, is the northwesternmost foothill of the quaternary volcanic field in the Westeifel. The volcano is 649.1 meters above normal zero. The Goldberg was formed about 10 to 11,000 years ago in two eruptions. First, a large ash cone was formed. The second eruption phase began after a short time, which at first exploded the top of the old cinder cone with a strong explosion. Then again a cinder cone was built up on the leftovers and the activity ceased after a certain time.
