Palmberg Bad Bertrich
Bad Bertrich
Warmth-loving plants grow on the south-facing slopes, including the Buxus Sempervirens (evergreen boxwood), popularly known as "Palm". Above the spa garden, a stand of box trees has developed into a real forest, a special natural monument, according to legend because the Romans brought the seeds with them in their robes.
Their occurrence and above all their natural distribution are rather unusual in this region because of the climatic conditions, but they are also particularly positive. This natural occurrence is particularly appreciated in the period before Easter. Traditionally, in Holy Week, individual branches of the box trees, instead of palms, are hung up in the house after the blessing.
The box tree stand is now a registered natural monument. Hikers can admire it on the HeimatSpur "Kurschattensteig" and "Wasserfall-Erlebnisroute" as well as on the "Geo-Route".
