Tower of Bells, Bitburg

Bitburg

The bell tower is currently switched off due to construction work in the upper Hauptstraße. The carillon is due to ring again in spring 2024.

The Bitburg Tower of Bells was donated by Bitburg’s Trade Union. At five after the hour, the bells play a German Folk Song. The doors then open up and depict figures of the local tradesmen and their crafts.

The carillon is played daily except on quiet holidays at the following times:

Bitburger Beerfountain

Located in front of the brewery and next to the restaurant, Simonbraeu, is the Bitburger Beerfountain. The fountain, which was built in 1937 by the Mayener sculptor, Professor Burger, originally stood on the Marktplatz, the town square. After WW II, it was erected to its present location.

Chapel "Einsiedelei"

The sacred building "Einsiedelei" is a beautiful chapel in the woods of the local community of Wiersdorf.

Chapel of the Sorrowful Mother of God

The Chapel of the Sorrowful Mother of God (municipality of Dockendorf) is located on the circular hiking trail no. 89 of the Southern Eifel Nature Park.

Roman long wall

In the community forest of Herforst, the so-called "Arenberg Forest", there are still remains of this wall as a 1 m-high stone wall with original foundations.

Lourdes Grotto Beilingen

The Lourdes Grotto is located in the community of Beilingen. It was built in 1909 on the initiative of Mr Nikolaus Bonertz. Throughout the year the grotto is visited by many believers and pilgrims. At the beginning of october there is an annual light procession to the Lourdes Grotto. Inside and outside the grotto is covered with lava slag. Ivy, moss and trees grow all around.

city model of Bitburg

The bronze model of the city of Bitburg can be found at Spittel Square in the pedestrian area. It was donated by Dr.-Hanns-Simon-Stiftung and shows the layout of the modern city centre. Especially blind people get an accurate impression of their surroundings. Place names in Braille add further detail to the model.
