An outstanding feature of this circular trail is the peace and quiet that surrounds the hiker. Far away from the town and the road, no civilization noise penetrates here. So you can enjoy the fascinating beauty of the landscape and nature undisturbed.

From the Gut Heistert hiking parking lot, you first walk through the south-easternmost tip of the Kalterherberg pastureland and enter a spruce forest. Can you hear the rustling in the treetops? How the birds sing? Can you feel the breeze blowing around you? The smells also change depending on the landscape and season. This hike is an experience for all the senses. Take a break every now and then to let the many impressions sink in!

On the way down into the valley, you can hear the rushing of the Perlenbach stream from afar. 200 years ago, it was home to unimaginably large numbers of pearl mussels. But that has long since changed. For centuries, it was the prerogative of the authorities to farm and harvest the mussels and their precious cargo. After the privileges were revoked and the subsequent overexploitation, the population began to decline dramatically. In addition, changes to the habitat and ecological conditions have led to the mussels having almost completely disappeared today. The number of animals was estimated at around 50 specimens at the end of the 1980s. All of them were over 60 years old.

Take a break to explore the area around the refuge just behind the Oberer Perlenbachsteg. From April to May, nature offers a special spectacle here. No matter where you look, the yellow of the daffodils shines everywhere in this season of few flowers. The number of plants in the entire Perlenbach and Fuhrtsbach area is estimated at around 10 million.

The unspoilt valley floor, which you also walk around on your walk, is a now rare "intermediate moor", characterized by bog birch, black alder and willow bushes as well as areas of moor grass, rushes and peat moss.The landscape is irresistibly attractive at any time of year. Before you make your way back through the spruce forest, after crossing the Unterer Steg (lower footbridge) you can enjoy a few more views of the romantic valley, which you really don't want to leave.

When it snows in winter, the hiking tour becomes a snow hiking trail.
