Ganz hohe Hecken sehen
Monschau
The Eifel village of Höfen is known for its high hedges.
The hedges can only be found in the northern Eifel.
The hedges are intended to protect the houses from storms.
And from rain.
And from snow.
The hedges are very old.
The hedges are also very high.
And very long.
People like to come to Höfen:
They want to see the special hedges.
There is a national park gate in Höfen.
This is an information center.
In the information house you can learn a lot
about nature in the Eifel National Park.
Opposite the National Park Gate is the village biotope:
This is a small park.
There is a picnic area in the park.
And wild flowers.
And you can hear water.
You can relax here.
Later you can walk along the Höfener Hecken-Weg.
The Höfener Hecken-Weg starts
at the hiking parking lot at the national park gate.
It is path number 31.
There are many information boards along the way .
The information boards tell you a lot about the different types of hedges.
At the beginning of the path you can see the house hedges.
In some places, people have
cut out the hedges at an angle.
Light enters the houses through the window cut-outs.
The hedge path then leads you out of courtyards.
Outside courtyards, the hedges look completely different.
Here you can see landscape hedges.
The landscape hedges stand alongside meadows.
You have the best view of the hedges
from the Eifel view at the edge of Höfen.
There is also a shorter circular route
for families with pushchairs.
Or for wheelchair users.
Or for older people.
At the end of the circular route you are back at the National Park Gate.
Next to the National Park Gate is the Alte Molkerei restaurant.
Here you can enjoy coffee and cake.
And relax after the walk.
