Looking for a low-barrier hike or leisurely walk with babies or toddlers in the Eifel? Then the EifelSchleife Moorpfad is just the thing. The tour, which runs east of the village of Dahlem, offers 8.9 kilometers of variety for the whole family with lots of interesting background information about the moor habitat. The entire route is barrier-free and can be negotiated with a baby carriage.

Give me moor!
The "Wasserdell" moor area is still one of the few healthy moors in Germany and a habitat for unique flora and fauna. The highlight of this EifelSchleife is therefore the small moorland circuit as part of the trail. Step by step, you walk on wooden planks directly through the beautiful moorland landscape past heather moorland as well as peat bogs and deciduous tree bushes. A small pond has also been created by damming the moorland stream, which is ideal for relaxing.

Good to know: Numerous information boards offer the opportunity to learn more about the flora and fauna that live in the moor.

The route at a glance
The tour starts and ends in Dahlem and is therefore easily accessible by train. There are cafés and restaurants in the town where you can stop for a bite to eat with regional specialties before or after the hike. The trail first heads south along the Bahnstraße and leads onto the Mühlenpfad and along the Haubach stream to the Vierherrenstein, a former boundary stone on the border between Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia. The route then continues to the moor, where the well-signposted moorland trail across the wooden footbridge is waiting to be explored. Many benches along the way invite you to pause for a moment. Breathe in, breathe out ... listen to the birdsong and simply take in this incredible natural backdrop. After the short breather, the route meanders leisurely back to the starting point in Dahlem.
