EifelSchleife Von Sternen und Römern
Bad Münstereifel
The 15-kilometre hike is themed around stars and Romans and leads through the secluded nature of various protected areas. It passes through the Eschweiler Tal flora and fauna habitat area and the Kalkkuppen nature reserve, which is characterized by oak, spruce and pine forests. The hiking tour partly follows the Eschweiler stream, which offers fascinating views over Eifel meadows - particularly impressive in early summer when the rape is in bright yellow bloom. In the forest, the "Astropeiler Stockert" radio telescope suddenly appears out of nowhere at the edge of the path. The curious photo motif impresses with a mirror diameter of 25 meters. From May to October, you can visit the radio telescope every Sunday as part of a guided tour.
In the small, idyllic village of Eschweiler, the hike leads past the pretty parish church of St. Magareta. Just before Iversheim, you can explore the traces of the Romans in the Eifel: the Iversheim Roman lime kil n is located on the northern edge of the Sötenich limestone hollow and is definitely worth a visit.
Tip:
The EifelSchleife "Of Stars and Romans" ends in Iversheim. From there, you can take the bus back to Bad Münstereifel. Alternatively, you can extend the hike to Bad Münstereifel by following the "Jakobsweg" signs.
