EifelSpur Zwischen Ville und Eifel
Weilerswist
The EifelSpur "Between Ville and Eifel" leads for 10.1 km through densely overgrown forest, across extensive fields and meadows and along a small stream. The circular hike through the Rhineland Nature Park runs between the Ville and Eifel mountain ranges. The densely beech-covered Villewälder nature reserve and the In der Roten Maar nature reserve, which is important for amphibians, make the hearts of hikers and nature lovers beat faster. The trail runs along the babbling Swist, whose source is in the Ahrgebirge mountains, past former gravel pits. The wide views can be enjoyed between the fields.
The start and finish of the hiking tour is the Swister Tower, the remains of an old parish and pilgrimage church on the Swisterberg. The former parish church was built between 1100 and 1125. After the nave fell into disrepair and was demolished in 1828, the tower was repeatedly renovated until 2006, when it was blessed by the Archbishop of Cologne as a place of pilgrimage.
