Felspassage [07]
Hürtgenwald-Zerkall
*Due to the construction of a new bridge at Gut Kallerbend, this hiking trail is being rerouted (as of 15.04.2025)*
Ancient rock formations in a dreamlike natural landscape
You can start the Felspassagen loop from the Rurtalbahn stop in Obermaubach or Zerkall. From there, follow the trail sign [07]. The path leads in gentle serpentines to beautiful viewpoints. As you stroll, you will encounter a natural spectacle of alternating dense and light forest passages, high vantage points and valley paths close to the banks. Let your gaze wander over the reservoir and the last hills of the Northern Eifel. Here you can unwind, enjoy the moment and forget the stress of everyday life.
On this route, you will pass breathtaking red sandstone cliffs that sparkle with their red-black gravel and shiny sand. The stone cliffs were formed around 220 million years ago by the water power of the Rur and are reminiscent of menhirs or a frog and form the Hindenburg Gate. Today, the stone landscape forms a valuable habitat for many rare animal and plant species. Keep an eye out for lizards, bats and eagle owls. Many survival artists such as lichens and mosses, wall lizards and ant lions find a retreat here and add to the charm of the tour. You also have the opportunity to climb on certain rocks.
Your children can let off steam in a forest playground surrounded by tall trees. And when hunger strikes, you can stop off at "Gut Kallerbend" in Zerkall or at one of the excellent restaurants in Obermaubach.
