HeimatSpur Erlebnisweg Achterhöhe
Lutzerath
Hiking at altitude
HeimatSpuren are high-quality hiking trails in the Volcanic Eifel that allow you to experience the landscape in a particularly intimate way. The Achterhöhe adventure trail is a delight for people who want to emulate the Celtic natives... because they also loved the wide views and buried their dead here in burial mounds, in high places in a land between heaven and earth. The vastness was sacred to them.
The ridge of the Achterhöhe stretches between Lutzerath, the May village of Immerath, Kennfus and Strotzbüsch. Hiking here is pure slowing down and taking a deep breath, not difficult to manage at around one and a half hours and only moderate inclines, yet unforgettably beautiful. Thanks to a viewing platform and a new, cozy barbecue hut with a forest playground, the Achterhöhe is also a perfect place for families with children to spend a morning or afternoon immersed in a free fairytale world like Nils Holgersson. Because it's not just the views that are enchanting. With a little luck, serenity and a closer look, there are many rare animals and plants to discover along the way, depending on the season. A fantasy journey is hidden on a short hiking detour in the outwardly inconspicuous church in the village of Driesch: an altar carved all over with figures in blue and gold. It is a testimony to deep faith, but at the same time a fascinating pictorial narrative of life and death.
