HeimatSpur Kleiner Dauner
Daun
Discovery tour between spa town and volcanic nature
HeimatSpuren are certified, high-quality circular hiking trails in the Volcanic Eifel that allow you to experience the landscape in a particularly intimate way. This does not always have to involve a great deal of physical exertion. This is even more true for the Kleine Dauner, as the 8.5-kilometre HeimatSpuren in the heart of the GesundLand Vulkaneifel is called, which is easy to do even for the untrained. There are 184 meters of altitude to overcome in an enjoyable way. The Celtic settlement of Dunum, documented since the 7th century BC, was originally located high on a basalt rock above the Liesertal valley. Daun, which developed from this, has retained the charm of a cozy spa, district and small town over the course of time. The combination of man-made culture and wooded nature can be felt everywhere. The trail leads through cozy residential areas and along a former railroad line with an imposing viaduct, a technical masterpiece of the Wilhelmine era. It touches the spa gardens with their Kneipp facilities and the quaint village of Gemünden with its welcoming restaurants. The historic Wehrbüsch Chapel shows hikers how closely Eifel spirituality and the art of living are interwoven with respect for creation. Perhaps this close connection is also due to the volcanism that lies at the feet of people everywhere here. In Daun's city center, in the Volcano Museum, this special history of the earth is presented in a family-friendly and vivid way, leaving a fascinating "aha" effect. Another child of the volcanoes is the Hotzendrees, which offers natural refreshment along the way. Mineral-rich drinking water flows out of the ground here free of charge, much to the delight of the locals.
