Römerkanal-Wanderweg Etappe 1
Nettersheim
It all began in Nettersheim - at least that is true of the Roman Canal and the hiking trail of the same name. Today, the ancient Romans would probably be described as connoisseurs, as they attached great importance to ensuring that ancient Cologne was supplied with the best quality water. How else could it be explained that they planned and built a water pipeline almost 100 kilometers long from the northern Eifel to the Rhine metropolis just for this purpose?
The Roman Canal Hiking Trail leads over 116 kilometers in seven stages from Nettersheim to Cologne, following the old Roman water pipeline. The overview of the Roman Canal Hiking Trail shows you all the stages.
