Römerkanal-Wanderweg Etappe 5
Rheinbach
Roman Canal stage 5 leads from Rheinbach to Bornheim-Brenig. The starting point of this stage is the Roman Canal Information Center at Himmeroder Hof in Rheinbach. It is well worth a visit, as everything here revolves around the water pipeline that supplied Roman Cologne with the best water from the Eifel . Not only technology and Roman enthusiasts will be amazed. In addition to the details of the Roman canal, the permanent exhibition presents the methods of Roman hydraulic engineering and the special features of the lime sinter. Numerous exhibits illustrate the technical masterpieces of the Romans. The information center is barrier-free and admission is free.
The region is also known for its fruit growing, with apple trees in particular lining the paths around Rheinbach. There are also extensive apple orchards along the Römerkanal hiking trail - a particular treat in spring and fall! You pass through villages before entering a dense forest area and then gradually approaching the surrounding area of Cologne.
The Roman Canal Hiking Trail runs for 116 kilometers in seven stages from Nettersheim to Cologne, following the old Roman water pipeline. The overview of the Roman Canal Hiking Trail shows you all the stages.
