Sonnen-Rundweg in Herresbach / Eifel
Herresbach
From the starting point - the village square - the path leads directly past the chapel. After 200 m, leave the main road, which turns left, and continue straight ahead. After crossing under the main road, you come to a farm track which you follow to the right in the direction of Döttingen. The main road is crossed here and you reach the pond via the Buhrweg. Resting benches invite you to linger and watch the water birds. After a rest, continue left past the pond. Here you follow the paved path (after 400 m you can turn right to the Döttingen refuge) and after approx. 1 km you reach the edge of the forest. The path leads off to the right to the "Geiersbusch" juniper area. From here you have a wonderful view of the Hochbermel, the Boos Eifel Tower (currently closed), the Hochkelberg and the Nürburg. The path now leads down to Herresbach. Via Schulstraße, you return to the main road and from there to Waldstraße, which branches off to the left. At the end of Waldstraße, you continue to the Herresbacher Heiligenhäuschen. This place invites you to take a contemplative break. After approx. 250 m, you reach the Herresbach "Eichenbäumchen", an oak tree several hundred years old that fell victim to the Kyrill storm in 2007, via a paved path. It is located in a prominent spot with a beautiful view. There is a refuge in the immediate vicinity. From here, you can return to the starting point in just a few minutes via Töpferstraße.
Please download the gpx track and the map of the trail in advance, as the signposting can be patchy in some areas.
For navigation using the gpx track, we recommend using the Rhineland-Palatinate Tour Planner app.
After downloading the app and clicking on the gpx track on this page, the correct route will automatically open in the app. By tapping on the three dots at the top right of the app display and confirming by clicking on the "Save offline" tab, you can navigate the route even without network reception.
Only stay on the marked paths.
Especially in the fall, be aware that leaves lying on the ground can hide bumps, roots, etc. on the path.
