The leisure trails in the Eifel slow down and tell a story full of action at particularly exciting places in nature.
TheVulcano Trail is one of the leisure trails and runs for around 26 kilometers around Schalkenmehren in the Volcanic Eifel. The Vulcano Trail is divided into two circular routes for shorter day hikes:
The eastern, 16-km-long "fairytale route" from Ellscheid and the western, 16-km-long "maar route" from Schalkenmehren.

Fascinating views of the Schalkenmehren maar await at the start of this circular hiking tour and allow hikers to immerse themselves in the history of the volcanic Eifel. In the natural outdoor pool, the special water of the maar can also be used for refreshment before or after the hike. The nature reserves also invite you to explore the unique natural landscape. Rare plants and many bird species have their habitat there and can be observed at close range.

First follow the yellow trail logo "Vulkaneifel-Pfade - Vulcano-Pfad". Shortly before crossing the B421, the white signpost "Vulkaneifel-Pfade - Vulcano-Pfad Kurzroute" leads you north onto the "Maarroute" (round trip: Schalkenmehren).
