As one of the longest railroad cycle paths in Europe, the Vennbahn runs through Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg with few gradients. For over a century, it was the iron link between Aachen and the north of Luxembourg.

The hustle and bustle of Aachen is quickly replaced by the quiet suburban idyll of the former abbey town of Kornelimünster. You cross the border between Belgium and Germany several times on this stage. The former cloth-making town of Monschau enchants with its half-timbered houses, narrow alleyways, cobblestones and culinary specialties. You should definitely try the mustard, Printen and Dütchen.

Between Monschau and Bütgenbach, you get a first impression of the unique moorland landscape of the High Fens, which also gives the Vennbahn its name.

A visit to one of the numerous "Fritures" is typically Belgian. The last stall before the German border is also signposted from the cycle path. In addition to frites, Belgium is also known for its beer - it is one of the richest varieties in the world.

You pass Bütgenbach with its viaduct and lake via the former Venn-Querbahn. Via Büllingen and Losheimergraben, you reach the connection to the Kyll cycle path, which follows the course of the wild and romantic Eifel river. Plains alternate with slightly hilly sections.

The destination of Gerolstein is not only known for its mineral water. The fountain town is dominated by a mighty, vertical cliff face made of dolomite rock that can be seen from afar. They were formed around 380 million years ago when a warm, subtropical shallow sea lay here, in which mighty reefs of stromatopores and corals formed.

Munterley, Hustley, Drohende Ley ("Ley" means rock), Große Kanzel and Auberg - the striking rock formations behind you, this stage leads to Gerolstein in the narrow, deeply incised valley of the Kyll.

Once you arrive at your destination, you can see, hear, feel, smell and taste what makes the beer of the same name so special at the Bitburger Erlebniswelt. The Bitburger brewery, founded in 1817 in the southern Eifel region, is one of the most important premium breweries in Germany.

A large number of rivers and streams run through the Eifel. Over millions of years, these rivers have carved their beds deep into the low mountain range landscape of the Eifel. Many of them are accompanied by cycle routes in the immediate vicinity. This is also the case on this stage, which opens up the landscape along the Nims and Sauer rivers.

The last stage ends in Trier. The date of its foundation in 16 BC gives Augusta Treverorum the title of "oldest city in Germany". The people of Trier are proud of their "Pochta", as the Porta Nigra, the Roman city gate, is called in Moselle-Franconian dialect, as well as the basilica, the amphitheatre and the Imperial Baths. Eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites are within walking distance in and around the city center.
