Jazz for cats only - a musical art exhibition at CASA Tony M., Am Marktplatz 3, 54516 Wittlich
Since the 1960s, Tony Munzlinger has painted his jazz pictures, many of which include portraits of the world's great jazz stars. In his works on jazz music, Munzlinger visualized the special expression of this original music and the particular style of playing of each jazz musician depicted. The result is a quintessence, so to speak, of the music and its artists, who convey this inimitable character in an artistic way.
In addition to the colorful paintings, the exhibition also includes many of the black and white drawings from the jazz series as well as a selection of the sketches and designs that Tony Munzlinger made for them. The exhibits include well-known jazz musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Lester Young, Miles Davis and Billie Holliday and famous jazz music locations such as New Orleans. Since its opening in July 2016, the CASA Tony M. Museum in Wittlich, located on the market square, has been showing a large permanent exhibition as well as numerous special exhibitions to pay tribute to Tony Munzlinger's multifaceted work and make it accessible to a broad public.
The special exhibition, which is being created in cooperation with Tony Munzlinger, the foundation and the cultural department of the city of Wittlich, will be on display at CASA Tony M. until the end of the year. A limited edition catalog will be published to accompany the exhibition: the first one hundred copies will be signed by the artist and will be available at CASA on the day of the exhibition opening.
