Der Pulvermaar-Vulkan – ein geführter Spaziergang rund um das Pulvermaar

Der Pulvermaar-Vulkan – ein geführter Spaziergang rund um das Pulvermaar

Oct 3, 2024 - Nov 14, 2024

Gillenfeld

The southern volcanic Eifel is characterized by maar volcanism. The highest density of maars in the world is found here. The Pulvermaar is the largest, steepest and deepest maar that has survived to this day. It is particularly suitable for tracing the volcanic formation: the classic of maar geology. But what is a "Maar volcano"? How does it differ from the "normal" volcanic mountain with its lava eruptions and flows? Can the images of Etna also be transferred to the Eifel? And can we expect another eruption in the future? The guided walk would like to answer these and other questions. It starts on the crater wall of Pulvermaar and leads along the edge of the lake (max. length 3.5 km). A detour to the Gillenfelder Tephra pit is possible by arrangement.

All age groups are welcome.
Previous knowledge is not necessary.
A magnifying glass is helpful the volcanic rocks.
Suitable for all ages.
