Die besondere Sonntagsreihe: Pulvermaar
Jun 8, 2025 - Sep 7, 2025
Gillenfeld
The Pulvermaar is the picture-book maar of the Eifel, the largest "eye of the Eifel". It is geomorphologically well preserved, with steep inner slopes and a shallow ejecta ring of loose material (tephra) fanning out into the landscape, an almost circular maar lake and a unique depth of over 70 metres. The two criteria for the scientific application of the term "maar" - formation through typical maar volcanism and funnel depth down to the groundwater - are fulfilled here in an exemplary manner. During a tour, the volcanic formation, but also the changes in the landscape around the Maar over the last 150 years are described.
