Die besondere Sonntagsreihe: Trautzberger Maar
Jun 22, 2025 - Sep 21, 2025
The youngest "Blue Eye of the Eifel" - and yet already very old. Only a short time ago, the oldest of the Strohn volcanoes, the Trautzberger Maar, in the middle of the Wartgesberg nature reserve, did not attract any attention. But today, the youngest "Blue Eye of the Eifel" shines in the same place. The former wetland in the Trautzberger Maar was drained as part of land consolidation in the early 1960s to create additional agricultural land. In summer 2014, the drainage system was removed for the purpose of rewetting. Successfully, as the maar has since filled with water. Now the area around the water surface can recapture the fauna and flora adapted to wet habitats.
