Führungen im Lavakeller in Mendig
Oct 26, 2024 - Apr 13, 2025
Mendig
The world's largest underground basalt lava mine stretches over an area of almost 3 km2 beneath the town of Mendig. At a depth of 32 metres, visitors can experience a journey through time into the world of basalt lava mining, which was an important source of income for the local population. As a huge ‘refrigerator’, the cellars also served as a fermentation and storage cellar for beer in the 19th century.
The lava cellar can only be visited as part of a guided tour. This lasts approx. 1 hour. Tickets are only available on site, as a day guest at the Lava Dome Museum.
Public tours take place from Tuesday to Friday at 1.30 pm.
The temperature in the lava cellar is a constant 8-9° Celsius. Please remember to wear warm clothing and sturdy shoes.
Reservations for our public cellar tours are unfortunately not possible.
In addition to the public tours, we offer private group tours in the lava cellar or as a combination in the lava cellar and the lava dome (+ museum layer).
For various reasons, we strongly recommend booking a private tour for groups of more than 15 people. In order to maximise the chances of success for your request, we ask for a lead time of at least 2-4 weeks.
Please send your request for a private tour in writing to info@lavadome.de.
