Geführte Touren durch die Wacholderheiden mit der Wacholderwacht Osteifel

Arft
The juniper heaths in Arft and Langscheid, among others, are a real "insider tip" of the Vordereifel. They were created by a special form of land cultivation, the so-called "Schiffelwirtschaft" and are now home to a variety of protected animal and plant species, which can be explored in a unique way during a guided tour with the Wacholderwacht Osteifel. Since ancient times and until the end of the 1950s, sheep and goats were kept in the juniper heaths of the Eastern Eifel. But because these areas could not be fertilized for cost reasons, more and more nutrients were extracted from the soil. Over the centuries, this has created habitats for undemanding and now very rare animal and plant species.
On a guided hike with a member of the Wacholderwacht Osteifel, those interested can learn about the special features of the heath vegetation or the history of this unique landscape. This association of nature conservationists takes care of the juniper heaths on a voluntary basis and thus actively protects the landscape for the long-term preservation of this unique landscape.
Interested people who like to work in a team, love nature, like to get to know something new and are willing to work together in the fresh air for a few hours once a month between March and November are very welcome! Both in a cooperation, as well as in a guided tour interested, can contact the Tourist Office Vordereifel (Tel. 02651 800 995, tourismus@vordereifel.de) without obligation.
