Halbtägige Lama-Wanderung in der Schönecker Schweiz
Apr 18, 2025 - Dec 31, 2025
Schönecken
Schönecker Schweiz is a little-known but incredibly diverse nature reserve in the southern Eifel. It is characterized by deep valleys with clear streams and wide plateaus. Rare orchids bloom and slender junipers grow on the valley slopes. Incidentally, it owes its name to the gentian, which grows here just like in the Alps. In spring, the ground in the beech forests is a carpet of blossoms made of snowflakes and wild garlic. In summer the gorse shines. Narrow hiking trails run through the area, where you rarely meet other people. Our three and a half hour trekking begins and ends directly below the castle ruins of Schönecken. After a brief introduction, during which you will get to know the llamas, we will start our tour of the Schönecker Switzerland nature reserve. Right at the beginning we hike down into the valley of the Altburgbach. Orchards and the slender silhouettes of the juniper bushes accompany us. Then we climb the ridge "Op Ischt" and enjoy the wide views of the plateau. Later we dive into the beech forest and arrive at a hidden clearing where we take a first break. It continues above the Schalkenbach, through the forest on narrow paths. Finally we reach the ancient Celtic refuge castle, which is enthroned on steep rocks above the Altburgbach. Here we take another short break and also have plenty of time to take pictures with the llamas. Then you have to take a narrow path from the rocky spur back down into the valley. Following the Altburgbach we reach our starting point after about four hours.
