History: Who was this Dietrich anyway? He lived from 1423 to 1498 and ruled as an imperial count from 1457 to 1488. During his reign he considerably enlarged his sphere of power through acquisitions and a clever inheritance policy. Thus, from 1468 he could call himself Dietrich III Count of Manderscheid and Blankenheim, Lord of Schleiden and Jünkerath.
