Our journey begins at Hinkelsmaar, a fascinating place of volcanic history that enchants with its uniqueness. Just a few steps away, we are greeted by the Windsborn Crater Lake, a gem of the Eifel, whose still waters and idyllic surroundings provide a picturesque backdrop.

After enjoying the mystical atmosphere of Hinkelsmaar and the Windsborn Crater Lake, we continue our hike towards the Mosenberg Volcano Experience Park. Along the way, we pass a lava fissure and flow, granting us insight into the impressive geological diversity of this region. The volcanic origin is highlighted by the striking lava formations that have developed over the centuries.

The Mosenberg Volcano Experience Park awaits us as the next highlight of our journey. Here, we can not only admire the beauty of nature but also delve deeper into the geology of the Eifel. A special highlight is the visit to the old lava quarry in Bettenfeld. This provides us with a unique view of the cross-section through the different layers of a scoria cone. The history of volcanic activity becomes tangible here, allowing us to closely examine the various rock layers.

During our stay in the lava quarry, we have the opportunity to collect lava stones. We will analyze them closely for their shapes, colors, and sizes. In doing so, we not only learn about the diverse aesthetics of lava rocks but also gain insights into the geological processes that led to their formation. Additionally, we acquire knowledge about the names of the different rock layers, which deepens our understanding of the geological history of the region.
