MozartWochen Eifel 2024 make a guest appearance in Gerolstein
- In the luggage a classical roundelay from Mozart to Haydn to Tchaikovsky

The time without Mozart Weeks is finally over: After three long years, the Mozart Weeks Eifel are finally making a guest appearance again in the fantastically beautiful Protestant Church of the Redeemer in the Gerolstein district of Sarresdorf. The church, which is still one of the most magnificent buildings in the history of German church architecture, was built between 1907 and 1913 in the neo-Romanesque style by the famous Berlin architect Franz Schwechten, who had also designed the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin shortly before. It is considered a rare art-historical document of the late German imperial era...

On Friday, November 15, 2024 at 19:00 in this magnificent church, which belonged to the House of Hohenzollern until 1945, the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim will perform under the direction of its first, long-standing guest conductor Georg Mais together with soloist Wen-Sinn Yang, violoncello. The versatile ensemble, consisting of fourteen musicians from seven nations, is one of the very few “full-time” chamber orchestras in Europe.

The varied program of this eagerly awaited concert with one of Germany's best chamber orchestras includes masterpieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn and Peter Tchaikovsky.

At the beginning of the concert, the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim will play Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Divertimento in D major KV 136, an early work by the great Salzburg master that is still one of the most popular compositions for chamber orchestra today. Radiance and freshness characterize this work. Audiences were already enthusiastic about it during Mozart's lifetime, and you can be sure that the guests at the eighth Mozart Weeks Eifel will not be stingy with their applause.

The 59-year-old Wen-Sinn Yang, one of the most renowned cellists on the international concert stage, will be making his first guest appearance at the Mozart Weeks Eifel as the soloist in the Concerto No. 1 for Cello and Orchestra by the great Joseph Haydn. Born in Switzerland, Wen-Sinn Yang (of Taiwanese descent) was first solo cellist with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich for many years and is now a professor at the Munich Academy of Music.

After the interval, the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Georg Mais, will play Peter Tchaikovsky's famous Serenade for String Orchestra in C major op. 48. In it, the famous Russian composer uses folk music from his homeland. Stylistically, however, Peter Tchaikovsky's Serenade is a homage to Mozart.

A concert experience in a class of its own awaits friends of the Mozart Weeks Eifel at the Comeback 2024 in Gerolstein - you simply have to be there.
