Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim - Mozart Wochen Eifel

Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim - Mozart Wochen Eifel

Nov 16, 2024

Bad Bertrich

Mozart Weeks Eifel 2024 write spa history - a classical programme from Mozart to Haydn to Tchaikovsky for the KulturRaum Bad Bertrich (SK). The time without Mozart Weeks is finally over: After three long years, the MozartWochen Eifel are finally making a guest appearance in the state spa and health resort of Bad Bertrich again. For the first time, however, the ensemble will be presenting its musical calling card in the KulturRaum, which belongs to the district of Cochem-Zell. On Saturday, 16 November 2024 at 19:00, the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim will perform in the spa with Germany's only Glauber's salt thermal baths under the direction of its first, long-standing guest conductor Georg Mais together with soloist Wen-Sinn Yang, cello. The versatile ensemble, consisting of fourteen musicians from seven nations, is one of the very few ‘full-time’ chamber orchestras in Europe. The varied programme of this eagerly awaited concert with one of Germany's best chamber orchestras includes masterpieces by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn and Peter Tchaikovsky. A première atmosphere is therefore in order when the Mozart Weeks Eifel take place for the first time in the KulturRaum, which impressively combines nature with architecture, history with modernity and culture with elegance.

The 59-year-old Wen-Sinn Yang, one of the most renowned cellists on the international concert stage, will be making his first guest appearance at the Mozart Weeks Eifel as the soloist in the Concerto No. 1 for Cello and Orchestra by the great Joseph Haydn. Born in Switzerland (of Taiwanese descent), he was first solo cellist with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich for many years and is now a professor at the Munich Academy of Music. After the interval, the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Georg Mais, will play Peter Tchaikovsky's famous Serenade for String Orchestra in C major op. 48. In this work, the famous Russian composer uses folk music from his homeland. Stylistically, however, Peter Tchaikovsky's Serenade is a homage to Mozart. Friends of the Mozart Weeks Eifel can look forward to a concert in a class of its own at the 2024 comeback in Bad Bertrich, the jewel between the Eifel and Moselle - you simply have to be there.
