A happy, healthy and prosperous New Year: that's what the Trier Coffeehouse Orchestra wishes its guests on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at 5 p.m. in the Forum Daun. You can look forward to a concert in the tradition of the classical New Year's concerts that have characterized the Vienna Philharmonic for decades - with waltzes alongside character pieces and folksy, festive and dance-friendly Czárdás melodies. Of course, the world-famous Radetzky March is not to be missed.

An expression of tenderly melting to virtuosically intoxicating sounds: The Trier Coffeehouse Orchestra, under the musical direction of Gert Spies, is dedicated to salon music in the style of the early 20th century. Since it was founded in 2017, ten musicians from the Trier area have come together with a passion for presenting classically elegant and bourgeois, entertaining salon music with precision and enthusiasm.

The core of a typical salon orchestra is the piano and a string ensemble. Depending on the area of influence, a flute (Viennese instrumentation), a clarinet and a trombone (Berlin instrumentation) or a cornet (Parisian instrumentation) are added. The Trier Coffee House Orchestra does not fit into any of these categories, as the flute, tuba, accordion, clarinet and saxophone are integral parts of this “Trier line-up”.
