Die Kalkmagerrasen haben z.T. ein einzigartiges Habitat hervorgebracht, das u.a. von vielen verschiedenen wilden Orchideen zu ihrer Blütezeit gekrönt wird. Auf dieser Exkursion wollen wir uns die Orchideen (Lupe!) näher anschauen, um neben ihrer faszinierend ästhetischen Schönheit die Funktionalität dieser Schönheit zu erkennen. Darüber hinaus gehen wir den sichtbaren Spuren im Exkursionsgebiet nach, um die geologischen Voraussetzungen der Bodenbildung über die z.T. wechselvollen anthropogenen Eingriffe und bis hin zur heutigen Pflege des unter Schutz stehenden Naturraumes nach zu vollziehen.

Religious monuments such as the wayside crosses showcase the faith in the Eifel region. This hike around Hillesheim leads to the crosses of the seven footfalls. Until World War I, prayers were offered at these crosses as a small Stations of the Cross. At the end of the hike, there will be a short lecture on the history of the wayside crosses. The limestone ridges in the area of the Eifel limestone hollows are known as the Tuscany of the Eifel. The appearance of the landscape with its impressive juniper heaths is very close to the Italian model. Centuries of extensive grazing have created valuable habitats. With a little luck, you can discover orchids and gentians here, or observe colourful butterflies, lizards and slow worms. The highlight of the round tour is the "Hippelsteinchen", a dolomite rock around which numerous legends revolve. Price: € 5.00 per person, € 8.00 per couple, free for children under 10.
