Wittlicher Konzerte - Trio con Brio Copenhagen - Meisterwerke des Klaviertrios
May 10, 2025
Wittlich
Effervescent joy of playing, magical dialogue, homogeneous interplay and instrumental perfection are terms that can often be heard about the Trio con Brio Copenhagen. The ensemble, which is one of the world's leading piano trios, celebrates its 25th anniversary on stage in 2024. In 2019, the Orchid Classics label took the trio's 20th anniversary as an opportunity to release the complete recording of all of Beethoven's piano trios, which received great international acclaim. The trio was founded in 1999 at the Vienna Academy of Music.
The three artists studied in Cologne with the Alban Berg Quartet, Frans Helmerson, Mihaela Martin and Harald Schoneweg as well as with Ferenc Rados in Budapest. After winning the ARD competition in Munich in 2002 and the Premio Vittorio Gui in Florence in 2003, the ensemble quickly established itself on the European concert stage. In 2005, the ‘Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Piano Trio Award’ enabled the breakthrough in the USA. In 2019, the trio received the prestigious ‘Carl Nielsen Award’ and was thus named Denmark's cultural ambassador.
The Trio con Brio Copenhagen is a regular guest in the most prestigious concert series and halls in Europe, America and Asia and plays a central role in the new music scene in Northern Europe. Scandinavian composers such as Per Nørgård, Bent Sørensen and Sven-David Sandström have written works for the trio. Their CD recordings, currently on Orchid Classics, most recently include the trios by Shostakovich and Arensky and received the German Record Critics' Award. Soo-Jin Hong plays a violin by Guarneri, Soo-Kyung Hong a cello by Grancino, and Jens Elvekjaer is a Steinway Artist.
